The post Untold Stories: Legendary Football Stars Who Shone Bright at Dartmouth College appeared first on Baltimore News Journal.

Dartmouth is one of the “Ivies” and was founded in 1769. The college boasts many distinguished alumni, including multiple U.S. governors, representatives, and senators, as well as more than a dozen Pulitzer Prize winners and 3 Nobel Prize winners.
However, to those graduates, many fond memories come from their longstanding excellence at sports, including an astonishing 51 Olympic medalists. There is pride in the fact that these student-athletes also met high standards for academic performance.
The demanding curriculum was conquered by a long list of players who achieved recognition on the “Big Green” playing field and in later life. From the Super Bowl to business, there is a large complement of Dartmouth football players who went on to success after leaving the school’s bucolic setting in New Hampshire.
One of the first names associated with Dartmouth and football is, of course, Reggie Williams. This talented linebacker arrived from Flint, Michigan, and earned numerous spots on the All-Ivy, All-New England, and All-American lists. He also boasts of membership in the Dartmouth and College Halls of Fame. His success with the Cincinnati Bengals included selection to the 1976 All-Rookie Team and two trips to the Super Bowl.
Another All-America and All-Ivy player came along when Casey Cramer entered the class of 2004. An amazing tight end with exceptionally gifted hands, Cramer was drafted into the NFL and played with Tampa Bay, Carolina, and the Tennessee Titans.
Consistency should have been the middle name of another Big Green legend, Dennis Durkin. During his time on the playing field, he set many season and career-kicking records that are still on the books today. His 13 for 13 field goals his senior year was just one feat that earned him spots on several select teams, including AP First Team All-American. His skills made a major contribution to the fondly remembered run of Ivy League football championships in 90, 91, and 92. The consistent stellar performance Durkin showed at Dartmouth continued with gaining an MBA at Harvard and success in positions with Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.
Another well-remembered string of success came during the time of another high-performing athlete, Murray Bowden. In 1969 and 1970 the team won all but one of its 18 games, and Bowden was co-captain during the undefeated 1970 campaign. As with so many of his fellow Big Green alumni, Bowden went on to further education and founded a successful private real estate firm in Houston, Texas.
It would take a much longer listing to include other Dartmouth greats, including those represented today in the Halls of Fame of the school and of college football. These would include the All-American guard Clarence Spears, quarterback Andrew Oberlander, who captained the national championship team of 1925, and Myles Lane, who holds the all-time scoring record at Dartmouth.
Of course, you shouldn’t leave out another overachiever, Edward Healy. This player from the class of 22 went on to play for the Chicago Bears and was installed in the Professional Football Hall of Fame.
Sit down at one of the popular pubs in Hanover and you will hear other names bantered about in admiration and warm memories. However, unlike many schools, you will also probably hear just as much about their wins after they left those hallowed halls.

]]>The post Robert Kraft Comments on Multiple Items at Media Breakfast appeared first on Baltimore News Journal.
]]>The media breakfast took place on the morning of Tuesday, March 29. The breakfast was part of the NFL’s Annual Meeting, which is always held at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
Addressing not just local but national reporters, Robert Kraft admitted to having frustrations over the past three seasons. After years of success and multiple Super Bowl championships, the New England Patriots haven’t won a playoff game during the past three seasons.
Like the sun rising as he discussed his team, however, Kraft expects the 2022 season to be a change. He mentioned the unprecedented amount that the team spent last year, a strong 2021 draft class that the coaches and front office put together, and Bill Belichick’s unparalleled level of success in the past.
Based on these three major considerations, Kraft expects a bright and rising future for the team — and that’s a bright future which should come this year.
Specifically speaking on his observations of Mac Jones, Kraft had only good things to say about the second-year quarterback. His performance this year should build on a strong rookie season, which is never easy to navigate in the league.
Kraft has obviously observed Mac Jones in practice, and interacted directly with him on multiple occasions. The owner praised Jones’s work ethic, attention to detail, and how much time and energy he devotes to perfecting his play. He wants every play, every read, everything to go right.
In addition to being a player who works hard, Kraft also mentioned that he was impressed with Jones’s personality. He described the quarterback as being humble and a good person. He’s liked by the front office, coaching staff, players and owner.
Of course, such a promising young quarterback requires a good coaching staff. Kraft spoke highly of Bill Belichick, who was instrumental in identifying and signing Jones as the quarterback. Belichick was also involved in the decision to give Jones the starting quarterback job this year, and continues to be involved in Jones’s development as an individual player and as the team’s on-field general.
The media asked Robert Kraft several other questions that he obliged during the morning breakfast.
He acknowledged Bill Belichick’s unique but successful methods, and admitted that he sometimes doesn’t understand the methods just as fans don’t always. Belichick has a record that speaks for itself, though, and Kraft tries not to interfere with coaching decisions.
Kraft is trusting that Belichick will have the right defensive and offensive coordinators in place for the season, which is still months away.
Robert Kraft indicated that he has hopes to return to (and win) the Super Bowl, possibly as early as this year. The quarterback is promising, and hopefully future seasons will bring success to the team. If the team comes together this year, the timeline could be accelerated. Not only might the team win several playoff games, but they have a chance to win it all in Kraft’s opinion.
In commenting on the Patriot’s approach to free agency this year, Kraft noted the large expenditures that the front office made last year and the salary cap. The team is somewhat limited in how much they can spend this year as a result.
Kraft also gave some perspective on how free agency works, however While headlines are exciting at this time of year — especially when at a media breakfast — the year’s entire free agency period matters. The Patriots may sign players right up until the deadline, and those players will still be on the team come playoff time.
In all of this, Kraft ended the breakfast saying that he wants to win football games. That’s what all of these decisions and efforts work toward.

]]>The post Who is The Best at MLB Handicapping? appeared first on Baltimore News Journal.
]]>Handicapping Major League games is unique when compared to other sports. This is because of the huge impact that starting pitchers have on the odds, making it a little overwhelming when trying to pick the best of the best. Here are a few of the most important MLB handicapping aspects to consider:
Sure, checking the weather might sound like a no brainer, but believe it or not, it tends to get overlooked quite frequently. Most baseball games are played outdoors meaning the weather is something that can dramatically affect your predictions. For example, the direction that the wind is blowing is important to keep in mind because it can affect the speed of the ball.
We are human and have good and bad days. It is important to keep in mind that popular teams and players are people too and while they might be successful, they can also have off years. Popular picks will also come with a higher price tag due to all their triumphs. This means that if you end up losing your bet on them, you will get stuck having to pay a large sum – and who wants that!?
It is important to carefully watch teams, especially in the beginning of the season to get an idea as to how motivated they are to win. While bad teams might easily get pushed backburner, if they get the right push in the right direction, that momentum might just take them all the way. Do not disregard teams or players that are doing poorly right away.
Since a team’s defense will have a say in how well their opponent performs, it is crucial to keep an eye on it and take note of their fielding percentages. By looking at their statistics, you will obtain a much better understanding to help give you an idea of how much to bet on them.
The pitcher essentially controls the game making it one of the most crucial positions found in baseball. When looking at different teams, you will want to consider their pitcher and how they have been throwing throughout the season. Most pitchers tend to start off a little slow in the beginning but many times they gain motivation and become a great pick down the road.
There are a ton of MLB handicappers to keep an eye on, but only a few are the best of the best. Here are three handicappers to watch this season:
Not every MLB handicapper has what it takes to profit over the course of a long drooling season, however, Sal Michaels makes it look like cake! His clients have enjoyed large profits of +7941.0 units with his baseball selections since March 2018.
R&R is an expert that has accomplishments including a 643-510 MLB run since July 4th, 2010, netting his $100/game customers $10032.0.
Bryan Leonard is a name that is consistently seen at or close to the top of the MLB leaderboards. His MLB picks have helped his clients with an eye-popping profit of +7299.0 units since April 2015

]]>Stoney Case, Chris Redman, Tony Banks, Scott Mitchell, Elvis Grbac…it sure has taken us a while to get to this point, hasn’t it?
ESPN’s Adam Schefter says that Joe Flacco could be set to earn a record payday, according to the New York Daily News.
“If (the deal with the Ravens) does get done, it will make Joe Flacco the highest-paid player in NFL history,” Schefter predicted on SportsCenter on Thursday.
Earlier this week, Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, told told USA Today that contract negotiations are “going fine.”
“We’re moving forward. This thing could be done in three minutes or three years,” Linta said.
Linta added that the Flacco situation wouldn’t affect Baltimore’s salary cap.
“Joe absolutely wants to work with the Ravens to ensure that they’re not impacted cap-wise. Joe doesn’t want to see anybody get cut as a result of this deal.”
Still, don’t expect the Ravens star QB to take a deal like Tom Brady’s new three-year, $27 million contract with New England.
“Whether Brady took a pay cut or took $27 million a year, it wouldn’t have an impact on what we’re doing. We’ve determined a number that we think is fair with respect for the Ravens’ cap situation,” Linta said.
It will be interesting to see what that “fair” number may be.

]]>Pollard drew a 15-yard penalty on the play for hitting a player in the head and neck area.
In previous season, Pollard has injured Tom Brady, Welker and Rob Gronkowski. In Sunday’s 28-13 Ravens win, Pollard caused a critical fumble by knocking running back Stevan Ridley out of the game.
Pollard was not penalized for that hit.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has already been fined for his sliding kick into Ravens safety Ed Reed.
The Ravens will now face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, February 3.

]]>This event became more than just a game between two teams. It became an event where it’s important to be seen, and thus many actors and other famous people can be found in first rows during the match. Super Bowl turned from a final game of the season into an event that is focused on commercials and advertisement more than anything else. A second of commercial time during the Super Bowl costs more than 150 000 dollars, which is far above any other event. Check Neteller betalingsmetode.
Every player wants to play in the Super Bowl because it has a lot of coverage by various media. But not every successful player can become a part of that event. An individual that played at the Super Bowl isn’t a better person or even a better player than one that didn’t. An excellent example of this is Torrey Smith. He is a great player that helped several teams rise from bad seasons and achieve minor successes. He also did a lot of work off-the-field, including charity work. He is a great person even though he never played at the Super Bowl.

]]>The post Ongoing Debate On The Number Of Games In The NBA appeared first on Baltimore News Journal.
]]>This kind of reaction to the ongoing problem was as expected as fatigue made many stars inefficient and their overall stats dropped. This, of course, didn’t sit well with fans that wanted to watch their favorite players. They pay a lot of money for seats, and they feel cheated when their favorite star doesn’t show up in the buff.game.
As with any issue, there are always two sides to it. NBA wants star players in all games, while their teams want them to play at their best whenever they are sent to the court. But these two aren’t compatible. The tight schedule makes it impossible for players to give their all at every game.
Resting players was the right of their clubs, even though they knew it would make their fans angry. But they couldn’t do anything about that. NBA responded to this by threatening with monetary penalties for clubs that rest players without sending a notice about that. But that memo did nothing but reignite the old debate concerning this issue.
The most significant problem in all of this is money. Both NBA representatives and club owners know that they can’t make any changes that wouldn’t affect profits. So, both sides are pretending that the issue isn’t in their hands. NBA officials try to force the issue on trainers and other staff because they don’t know what to do. They make threats with penalties and let those trainers decide what they are going to do.
On the other hand, you got trainers and other club staff that don’t want to have anything with the issue. They are doing what they can at the moment, and that is resting players. The obvious solution to everything is a reduction in the number of games. Yes, that would reduce the profits that NBA reaps from commercials, but that would make both fans and clubs happier. If that ever happened then, clubs wouldn’t have to rest their players and fans would get to see their favorite players at each match.
